DAC2904: Specification Clarification

Hello there,

My customer is currently using the DAC2904 in their system and have a question regarding the following--

"According to page 3 of the datasheet, the output compliance range is -1.0V to +1.25V, but this is when VA= +5V...

Further down page 3 of the datasheet shows the VA supply can range from +3.0V to +5.5V.

How will operating the DAC2904 with VA=+3.3V affect the output compliance range?"

This is a very old legacy Burr Brown device, and unfortunately, we do not have any documentation that can help answer your question. I suggest you order an EVM and try this test yourself, or if you just need a simple comparison done with a single tone, we may be able to do this test for you.

Hi Jim,

Could you vary VA from +5V to +3.3V while making a tone that peaks at +1.2V ?

Unfortunately, I shipped the only board I had. Can you tell me what application this is for? Have you looked into using the THS5672?

Hi Jim,
We currently have the DAC2904 in stock, so we'd prefer to use it. Its looking like we'll just need to power VA from +5V instead of +3.3V.

XJ found a previous design whereDAC2904's VA tied to 3.3V instead of 5V and everything worked swimmingly so we can close this. Thanks for your help.
