DAC38RF82: technical help

Part Number: DAC38RF82

I am using one of the TI product : DAC38RF82. I need your assistance in configuring the device for the required operation.
The requirement is as below;
1. The DAC is interfaced with Kintex-7 FPGA.
2. need to use the DAC in 1Tx mode, 12 bit DAC.
3. the Max Line rate supported by the FPGA is 6.6 Gbps.
4. Sampling rate should be 1.5 Gsps.
Can you suggest me the best way to configure the DAC to operate as per the above requirements?
Should you need more details, please let me know.
  • Jenny,

Can you use real input data, not IQ? With real input data, you can use only 1x or 2x interpolation factor. At 1X, the line rate will be 5.625Gbps. At 2x, half this rate. This will require a LMF = 413. If you require IQ input data, you will have to use 2 IQ pair inputs and 24x interpolation. The LMF = 243 for this case and the line rate will be 1.875Gbps. These are the only options available unless you change to some other setting.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

Thank you for the reply to my query.
The following is my view; please correct me if i am wrong.
Using 12-bit IQ data over 8 lanes, the line rate will be 5.625 Gbps.
I think that, my requirements will be met if there is a way to operate the device in 12-bit, 8 lane, 6x interpolation IQ mode OR the similar one with real input mode.
I would like to run the device as fast as possible, so i would like to utilize all the 8 lanes effectively.
If i am correct in my view, can you suggest me a suitable mode for operating the device?
    Regards
  • Jenny,

I cannot get this to work with your numbers in 12 bit mode. If you use dual DAC 14 bit mode, you can use 1 I/Q pair, 6x inter, and get a serdes rate of 5.625Gbps with the input data rate at 562.5MHz and the DACCLK at 3375MHz. Will this work for you?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

Thank you for your patient help.
  • You are welcome.
