DAC8728EVM: Power supply for DAC8728EVM

Part Number: DAC8728EVM

Hello,

I have a question about the power supply of DAC8728EVM.

In the datasheet, the AVDD and AVSS can be +4.5~+18V and -4.5~-18V, respectively.

However, in page 19 of the User's Guide of the DAC8728EVM, it mentioned that: "It is important to operate this EVM within the input voltage range of –16.5V to +21V and the output voltage range of –15V to +15V."

Does it mean that it is not allowed to apply voltages between -16.5V and -18V?

Or is it a typo?

I am choosing a power supply of it, considering +-18V, so it is a bit urgent.

Thank you!

  • Hi Ming,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your query. Per page 11 of the EVM user's guide, it looks like the power input can be +/-18V. I have checked the component ratings - they also seem to operate at this range. However, before confirming to you let me check with the internal team.

  • Hi Ming,

While in bipolar mode +/- 18V is specified as the max operating condition for the DAC, the recommended conditions are +/-16.5V. Hence, you should apply -16.5V as the minimum voltage to AVSS for best performance. In the unipolar mode, the devices are specified till +33V. However, there may be some components/circuits that might not work properly beyond +21V. I couldn't get a definitive answer on this from the team. Sorry for that.

Hence, you can follow the limits below:

    Bipolar Mode: +/- 16.5V
    Unipolar Mode: +21V

    Regards,
    Uttam
