High speed ADC board with DC coupling

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC3224

 Dear Forum,

I ordered an FPGA board (Altera Cyclone V GX Starter Kit), which has an HSMC and GPIO connector. I'm searching for a high speed ADC (>=50 MSps) to digitalize a signal with at least 12 Bits. I need to digitalize the absolute Voltage (2 Vpp) level which means that I need a DC coupling. Can you suggest any evaluation boards which ideally can be directly connected to the FPGA board (e.g. via the TI HSMC brige)?

  • Hi John,

I assume you will be writing the firmware for the Cyclone V, so there is an example here www.ti.com/.../tsw14j56evm that may help for our Altera based FPGA capture card TSW14J56EVM . There are many options available, but just taking a quick look, I would recommend you look at the ADC3224. The max Analog input is 2Vpp, as per the datasheet. Plus, it can sample up to 125 MSPS.

    Regards,

    Dan
  • Hi Dan,

thank you for your reply. Both look promising. But your first option is a board with an integrated FPGA and the second option is a single IC element. I searching for something ready-to-use but not connectable to my board (e.g. by using http://www.ti.com/tool/hsmc-adc-bridge). Do you maybe offer any evaluation boards just for AD conversion, which can be connected to an external FPGA? E.g. I recently found ADS6445EVM, where I understand that it can probably configured to DC-coupled inputs. But it looks quite difficult, because you - like I understand - have to remove some of the resistors on the board. And I'm also not sure if its capable of digitalizing a 2 Vpp signal.

    Thanks and best regards,

    John

  • John,

there is an HSMC connector based development board from Dallas Logic (dallaslogic.com/.../). Would this meet your needs.

    Best regards
