TLV2553: Minimum EOC/Tconvert or Maximum Internal Clock

The width of the EOC signal (Tconvert) is dominated and determined by the internal clock frequency according to the equation Tconvert = (13.5 x (1/Fosc) + 25ns)

The data sheet specifies the minimum clock frequency (maximum EOC width) but not the maximum clock frequency (minimum EOC width.) Does TI have any characterization data that can give us an idea of the maximum internal oscillator frequency? It appears to be a function of Vcc but I imagine temperature also plays a role?

Hi Kurt,

We do not test the oscillator frequency directly. Rather the minimum specification is guaranteed by design; i.e. the spec is met if the ADC throughput is >= 200 kSPS. Temperature is not likely to have a significant impact on the oscillator frequency and you can still expect a 200 kSPS throughput for the device (across the -40 to 85C operating range).

Thanks for the response Evan. We're not looking for anything tested - just statistical data that is frequently part of the initial device characterization. For example, is the specified minimum clock frequency a six sigma number and if so can we infer from characterization data what the nominal frequency is and therefore the upper statistical limit?

Hi Kurt,

During test we screen the devices by conversion time and have set the t_convert min spec to be 2.2 us. Solving the equation given in the datasheet, this translates to an f_osc max spec of 6.2 MHz.
