ADS1232: analogue part does not shut

Part Number: ADS1232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A3166

Hi,

I use the ads1232 with DVDD 3.3V and AVDD 6V with referential configuration.

If I let the software shutdown the device /PWDN the device shuts normally.

But If I accidentally remove DVDD while the ads1232 is in working stage and the AVDD remains high then the ads1232 does not shutdown the analogue part causing circuit to draw unwanted mA.

Note: I use the TS5A3166 analogue switch to disconnect EXC- which is tested on all stages and works fine.

Can you suggest ?

Best regards,

Theodore

  • Hi Theodore,

If you remove the digital power (DVDD) then all digital control and settings to the analog section will be removed and place the device in an unpredictable state.  Also note that on page 23 of the datasheet, the PDWN pin must remain low until both AVDD and DVDD have powered up.  If DVDD is removed, then all digital signals must be off and not powered and PDWN must be low.  If digital pins are active and DVDD to the ADS1232 is off, then the absolute maximum rating for the ADS1232 has been violated for the digital inputs.

Regarding absolute maximum ratings, if you operate the ADS1232 at 6V you are at the maximum supply voltage for the device and the device could become damaged.  I would strongly suggest not operating the device in this way.  The ADS1232 is specified for operation from 2.7 to 5.3V as stated in the Electrical Characteristics table on page 4.  Operating outside of this region may have unpredictable behavior and specifications as stated in the table regarding MIN, TYP and MAX no longer apply.

    Best regards,
