ADS1220: Unused reference pin should be tied?

Part Number: ADS1220

Hi.

We plan using ADS1220's internal voltage reference. What should we do with unused reference pins: REFP0 and REFN0?
Tie AVDD, AVSS, left floating? Add cap?

Unused I/O section doesn't mention it. Other pins: AIN2 is tied AVDD, AIN3 floating, CLK to DGND.

  • Hi Mic,
Welcome to the forum! On page 47 of the ADS1220 datasheet is section 9.1.5 titled 'Unused Inputs and Outputs'. I believe you already have seen this section based on the connections you are using. However you may have missed the sentence where it mentions ' leave unused analog and reference inputs floating, or connect the inputs to mid-supply or to AVDD.' Note the inclusion of reference inputs. To minimize any potential of leakage, I would suggest leaving the reference inputs floating when unused.
    Best regards,
    Bob B
