TSW14J56EVM: Defective board, need RMA

Part Number: TSW14J56EVM

Hi,

I have purchased 2 TSW14J56EVM boards, and use them interchangeably with 2 of DAC38J84EVM boards, 1 of ADC32RF45EVM, and 1 of ADS54J60EVM boards and there are no issues.

I decided to buy a 3rd TSW14J56EVM board so I don't have to share with 4 of the ADC/DAC boards as much. However, the 3rd one cannot communicate with any of the ADC/DAC boards at all; for ADC capture there is a capture time out and for DAC when I hit send there is also an error, following the same procedure I used daily for the last 6 months.

I like to start RMA or get an exchange for the defective boards ASAP.

We are in the process of buying more of TSW14J56EVM, DAC38J84EVM and  ADS54J60EVM to integrate with our systems and given the yield and the fact the RMA process requires me to post on an online forum to 'troubleshoot' with TI engineering team before it can be approved, maybe I should change suppliers.

Thanks,

Alan

  • Hi Alan

Are all 3 TSW14J56EVM the same revision? What is the information reported in the bottom center of High Speed Data Converter Pro after connecting the boards? For example with the board I have connected I get "TSW14J56revD Board = T812MEAg"

If they are all the same, and you have tried the new board with the same +5V power supply and USB cables that work with the old boards, then I agree the new board is defective.

If it is a different revision it might be worth debugging further. Other things to check are to be sure the 5V power supply is not hitting current limit at any time. The current capability should be 3A or higher.

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Hi Jim,

    Thanks for the reply.

One of the two working boards is revision E and the other is revision D, as shown on the PCB.

The 3rd defective one is revision E. I use the same USB 3.0 cables, same current supply (rated 5A), same ADC/DAC boards when I test the defective one against the other two. From the high speed converter when the defective board is connected it shows "TSW14J56revD Board = T827HDVa"

Also yesterday I ordered a replacement unit from DigiKey on overnight shipping that just arrived this morning. The 4th board is also revision E and it works fine just like the first two (for example, no "BULK_TRANSFER_OUT_FAILED" message when communicating with the DAC EVM board)

So to summarize I have two working revision Es and one working revision D and one defective revision E that needs exchange.

  • Hi Alan
I agree with your assessment that the one board is definitely defective.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help with the return authorization.
    Best regards,
    Jim B
  • Hi Jim,

Thanks. So how do I proceed with the return (exchange) process?

    Regards,

    Alan

  • Hi Alan

Was the bad board purchased through a distributor or the TI Store?

If it was a distributor the return will need to go through them and they will contact someone at TI for approval of the return.

If it was the TI Store the information regarding returns is here: http://www.ti.com/store/faq-returns-and-refunds.html#refund

If you have any problems let us know.

    Regards,

    Jim B

  • Hi Jim,
It is from the TI Store.

So do I submit a refund (or exchange?) request with a reference to this post?

    Regards,
    Alan
  • Alan,

please go ahead and request the exchange / refund referring to this post.

    Best regards
    Matthias
