ADS1191: CH2SET for power down

Part Number: ADS1191
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1291,

Hello Precision ADC Experts,

For the ADS1291, the datasheet says on page 44:

When powering down channel 2 and for ADS1291, make sure the input multiplexer is set to input short configuration. Bits[3:0] = 001.

On the CH2SET page in the ADS1191 datasheet (page 41), there's no similar statement.  Does it apply?

Thanks,
Darren

  • Hi Darren, you assumption is correct. I'm not sure why that note was not included in the 1191 datasheet. The statement applies to both parts. I've spoken with my team and we're looking into adding this fix in the next datasheet revision.
  • Hi Matt,

I was the one who asked the question to Darren, so I was following the thread he started. Thanks for the quick response.

In my current design with ADS1191, CH2SET was set as power-down but with mux set as 000 (default) : connection to the electrode...

What are the potential impact of this configuration? Can we expect improvement of any kind by correcting the CH2SET register per ADS1291 statement?

    Thank you
    M.
  • Hi Mathieu,

I'm sorry for responding late, I must have missed your comment. There is not much impact leaving the inputs at default while the device is powered down. We generally recommend doing shorting channel to ground if it won't be used, but you should be fine leaving it open as well.
  • Hi Matt

    Thank you for the response.

I'll update the settings anyway, but I wanted to have a feel of anticipated results.

    Regards,

    M.
