ADS1225: Exposed pad connecting

Part Number: ADS1225
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220

Hi teams,

My customer wants to know what recommended to be connected the exposed pad to anything.

I think this is recommended to be connected to GND.

And, in the datasheet the recommended land pattern is built the via.

Is there a reason for providing vias for purposes other than improving the heat dissipation characteristics?

Best regards

Hayashi

  • Hayashi-san,

I would connect the pad to ground. That is the recommended connection to the pad. The drawing in the datasheet is a generic layout design for the package. The vias are used to draw heat away through the thermal pad. However for this device, the power dissipation will be about 2.5mW, so the heat will not be a concern.

If you need an sample layout, I did draw an example using the ADS1220 layout as a starting point. In the following post, I did not draw the thermal pad in the layout, but I did mention that the pad should be attached to ground.
