ADS1299EEGFE-PDK: ECG application using ADS1299EEGFE-PDK

Part Number: ADS1299EEGFE-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8881, ADS1299

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask ADS1299EEGFE-PDK?

We would like to construct ECG application using ADS1299EEGFE-PDK.
Could you give us the advice which is connection of electrode code with ADS1299EEGFE-PDK and jumper setting on the board?

On the website, there is  ECG Data Acquisition System using ADS8881.
http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau516/slau516.pdf
Is it the same as above web document?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello Matsumoto-san,

    Thank you for your post.

The ADS1299 features 8 differential input channels. You can connect the electrode inputs in any configuration you like! Please refer to the schematic at the end of the ADS1299EEGFE-PDK user guide for jumper connections.

The TI Design you referenced is a single-channel, discrete solution to demonstrate how the instrumentation amplifier inputs and RLD amplifier outputs function in ECG data acquisition systems. The ADS1299 these same features, including a high-impedance, differential input stage for each channel as well as an internal bias amplifier for common-mode rejection (same as RLD).

Thank you so much for your reply!
We would like to use ADS1299EEGFE-PDK with differential input.
JP setting and electric codes are as follows;(please refer to the attachment file.)

Could you give us if we have the wrong setting?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi team

    We have some update information.
Could you refer to the attachment file?

  • Hello Matsumoto-san,

Please connect the Right-Leg Drive electrode to JP25[2], not JP25[6]. The BIASOUT signal is connected to the net "BIAS_ELEC" when JP1 = [1-2].

    Otherwise, the settings look fine.

The x-axis on the Scope plot represents the sample count. The time between samples can be calculated based on the data rate.

Thank you so much for your support always!

We would like to confirm additional setting as attachment file.
Please refer to the attachment file.

We got the clear wave form using this configuration.
    Is it correct settng?

    Kind regard,

  • Hello Matsumoto-san,

This configuration will work; however, it only allows you to drive a DC mid-supply common-mode voltage using the 2-M resistor divider and the on-board buffer, U11.

Another option is to use the internal BIAS amplifier to derive the common-mode. You can try this by uninstalling JP6 and installing JP1[1-2]. Leave the right-leg electrode connected to JP25[4]. This will connect the right-leg electrode to the output of the internal BIAS amplifier. The ADS1299 has its own internal resistor divider to derive the same mid-supply common-mode voltage. In addition, the ADS1299 also allows you to connect the PGA outputs to the BIAS amplifier inverting input. The benefit of this method is that the user can generate an AC common-mode cancellation signal to improve common-mode rejection.
