ADS1282 does not respond

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO, ADS1282

Hi All,

I am working on ADS1282 which is connected to MSP430F2273 over UCA0. I have ADS1282EVM-PDK and  use EVM to mount it on standalone system and then use it along with PDK to verify the results on PC.  Recently my PDK and EVM have started behaving strange :D. PDK will not work on my laptop but it works on another PC. I have checked all drivers and reinstalled ADCpro with no luck. However, this is not a big problem. Another thing is, EVM when mounted on test board, does not talk to MSP430 at all. I am monitoring all SPI signals and everything looks ok but there is no activity on MISO pin. I am providing 3.2V supply and +-10V supply as well.

I tried reading ID register (address 0x00), then configured different registers and tried to read them, which did not work. I assume ADS1282 is RIP but then why would it work on PDK?

Do you have to change the jumper settings on EVM before you can use it in standalone system? I went through ADS1282EVM-PDK document and it said only thing to change would be J3 if you have external clock source. But here, I am using onboard clock.

I appreciate your time and consideration.

Have a great day !

  • Anand,

You might want to check to make sure that RESET and PWRDN are being pulled high on the EVM, mode pins are in the correct state and that you are getting a clock at CLK.  You will also need to connect +5V to the EVM as well (-5V too if you want to run in bi-polar mode.) +/-10V connect to the reference and op amps.  +5V drives AVDD to the ADS1282.

When running ADCPro, we need a little more information (error messages, etc.) to help troubleshoot your system.  Usually there is a driver conflict.  Have you loaded anything else to your system recently?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Bob,

Thank you very much for quick reply. I really appreciate that.

Yup, I just connected all power supplies and it is working just fine with stand alone system.

On my laptop, after you load EVM in ADCpro, it tries ti download firmware but it fails. Then it asks to reset it. Even after reseting it several times, it does not recognize it. Error Message: Download failed, reset the hardware.

Thanks a ton. Otherwise I would not have figured out the problem.
