ADS1256EVM-PDK: Confusion regarding OS requirements

Part Number: ADS1256EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1256, ADCPRO

I purchased an ADS1256EVM-PDK with the hope of being able to evaluate the capabilities of the ADS1256.  Upon purchase, I attempted to follow the User's Guide (SBAU090D–November 2003–Revised May 2016) and was surprised to see Section 8.4 state that the only supported operating system is Windows XP.

Is there no way to run this software on a current OS?  Note that Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft.  Indeed, my IT administrators forbid it on my network.

Note that I've tried the install on Windows 7 and 10.  In both cases, ADCPro appears to work.  The problem is that the ADS1256 drivers do not recognize the board when the USB cable is connected.  The device is listed as unknown in the device manager.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you.  ~ Joseph

  • Hi Joseph,

ADCPro (and the ADS1256EVM) can definitely run on Windows 7...
The ADS1256EVM User's Guide must not have been updated when Windows 7 support was added.

    Regarding the EVM driver...
There is an issue with the MMB0 driver installer that is included with the ADCPro installer, and quite often we've seen that this driver is not getting installed correctly with ADCPro. To resolve this, try downloading and installing the stand-alone MMB0 driver from "ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/ADCPro2/misc/drivers/" (download either the 32bit or 64bit installer, depending on your OS).

Most of the time we've seen driver issues this stand-alone driver installer is able to resolve the problem. I hope that helps...

    Best regards,
    Chris

  • Hello Chris,

Thanks for the reply.  I tried the link in 2 different browsers but end up on a TI page that says "An Error Has Occurred".

Is this a broken link perhaps?

    Thanks,

    ~ Joseph

  • Hi Joseph,

Sorry, let me try to post the link again, with with the "ftp://" prefix included this time:

    ftp.ti.com/.../

    Best regards,
    Chris
  • Yes, I should have realized the ftp:// prefix was needed. Thanks for the quick reply. I've now been able to connect using my Win7 computer.

(Note that the MMB0 driver installer failed on my Win10 machine.)

    Thank you for your assistance,

    ~ Joseph
