ADS4249EVM: Controlling the CDCE72010 chip on the EVM

Part Number: ADS4249EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE72010, , ADS4249

Hello,

I'm using the ADS4249EVM board. The board has a built-in CDCE72010 chip on it.

I currently use a 1000 MHz clock oscillator which is divided by the default value of the CDCE72010 which is 4 so I got 250 Mhz. clock to the ADC.

It is working well and I got a nice spectrum.

I would like to be able to change the sampling rate to 200 MHz. (i.e. clock divider of 5) or lower frequency. I see that the CDCE72010 is controlled by the FT245RL chip:

I tried to find a way to control the CDCE72010 chip from the ADS4249 EVM software but I did not find how.

Can you tell me how to control this chip?

  • Aronii,
I have sent your question to an engineer familiar with this EVM.
    Regards,
    Brian
  • Aronii,

Unfortunately, the engineer who did this GUI did not include an interface to the CDC device. One option is to purchase a CDCE72010 EVM and connect the SPI interface from that board to J22 of this EVM. Another option is to modify the firmware of the TSW1400EVM to add a way to write to this SPI interface as the connections exists between the two by moving some resistors. I will make a request to our software development team to see how much effort and time it would take to add this feature.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hello Jim,

As you may see, it took TI about 50 days to answer that it is impossible to control the CDCE72010 chip. Since we are already experienced with TI's response time, we know that writing such a software might take a year or 2 or would never happen.

We are in the middle of a project with that evaluation board. We don't have the time to wait until TI would support us if they will do that  (no time, busy with other projects, no support personell available etc. - We already heard all of those excuses).

We must control that chip and we must do it within a month from today.

Is it possible to share with us the code of the program of that EVM? We will ask our programmers to do that.

We can sign an NDA if required.

We cannot do that from another external program because your program already holds the USB port of that device for controlling other registers.

I would appreciate your fast response.

  • Aronii,

If you are interested, we have an executable program that can write to the registers of the CDCE72010 device using the FTDI device on the board. We are having trouble getting this to read the registers though.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Jim,

If it works with ADS4249EVM board, then I would be very interested in getting such a program.

I don't need to read the internal registers.

    Avi

  • Avi,

    The GUI is attached.

Note: The UI of the exe has the instructions on how to use it.

    Jim
