ADS8028: Please verify the configuration

Part Number: ADS8028

Hi All,

I have a customer asking about how to power the ADS8028 as he is coming up to speed on the part.   He's thinking of powering the ADC this way:

1.       Connect Pin 7 (REF) to external 1.8V voltage reference

2.       Connect Pin 16 (DVDD) to a 1.8V voltage supply

3.       Connect Pin 10 (AVDD) to 1 3.3 voltage supply.

With this power configuration, please let me know if this will enable the following or if more needs to be done:

1.       SPI interface logic level with high level = 1.8V, low level =0V

2.       Analog input voltage range is from 0 to 1.8V.

Thanks, John Garrett, TI-AFA

  • John,

There is no power up sequencing requirement on the ADS8028. The supplies can applied in any order. However it is important to ensure that the supplies have reached their final values before initiating a conversion on the device.

In order to operate with the external 1.8V reference, it is necessary to first switch off the internal 2.5V reference by setting the EXT_REF bit to '1'.
