ADC12D500RF: The replacement question

Part Number: ADC12D500RF
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12D1000

Hi team,

Can ADC12D500RF be used as a pin-pin replacement for ADC12D1000?

  • Hi Mickey

Electrically the devices are pin compatible and can be used with the same board design. All I/O and power supply voltages are identical.

There are 2 key functional differences that can be handled with slight firmware/software changes:

    1. There are some differences in output DCLK and DATA timing. The ADC12D500RF only supports SDR output clocking when used in 1:2 demux mode, while the ADC12D1000 only supports DDR clocking when used in 1:2 demux mode. In non-Demux output mode, the ADC12D500RF supports SDR and DDR clocking modes, while the ADC12D1000 only has DDR output clocking. To switch to the ADC12D500RF may require minor updates to capture logic to compensate for this difference depending on the current mode used.
    2. There are some configuration register differences between the two devices, mostly related to some additional features in the ADC12D500RF device. Therefore the configuration settings driven from system firmware or software will need to be updated to consider these differences.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Best regards,
