WEBENCH® Tools/ADS7229: ADS7229

Part Number: ADS7229

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

Can anyone help me how to do functionality, VOH and VOL test for ADS7229?  we are not sure which pins to connect and perform the test. we are using the virtual bench to test the device(ADS7229).

we are trying to connect VA(analog voltage), VBD(interface supply) to give supply between 3.3 to 5 volts and VBD, AGND to ground. What we are trying to do is giving voltage to input pins (+in),(-in).gradually increasing the voltage at input pins (+in) and (-in) is set to ground and Checking the output voltage at SDO by sinking 100uA of current.I think this is the wrong procedure to test it for VOH.

As it has SPI interface, I assume we have to make use of SDI, SDO, SCLK, CS, CONVST pins and do the test.

can anyone suggest me, if you have any idea on this topic ASAP?. It would be really helpful.

Thank you

  • Welcome to our e2e forum!  The SDO pin of the ADS7229 will not toggle just by powering the device and applying voltage to the analog inputs.  You would need to start the conversion process (toggle CONVST), ensure the CS is low, apply SCLK, etc.  The VOH and VOL levels are listed in the datasheet, so I'm curious as to why you are trying to test them.  Is this effort part of a project you are working on or do you have some sort of problem interfacing with the chip?  I'm also curious what 'virtual bench' you are referring to.

  • Hey I appreciate for your response . I am using Virtual bench 8012 and I got to know that its needed to test functionality in prior to VOH & VOL test. My project is to test ADS7229 chip. It would be great if you could suggest ways of performing functionality. I tried it using SPI and Virtual bench but am not able to get it. I hope to hear from you.
  • Hi Shadu,

I know of that NI instrument, but I've never actually used one. First thing first is that you'll have to figure out the SPI interface to give the ADS7229 the control lines it needs to actually do some conversions. Since I've never used the Virtualbench tool, my suggestion would be to try going through their knowledge-base to see if you can find a proper SPI routine (assuming it even can). If it can't, you'll have to use a micro controller or FPGA to interface with the ADS7229.

  • Hi Tom,

Thank you for your suggestion and quick response.

    Regards,
    Shadu
