PGA970EVM: PGA970EVM Waveform Generation and Capture

Part Number: PGA970EVM

Dear all,

I am new to PGA970 and LVDT measurement. After following the steps in this thread, https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/pressure/f/998/t/577226 , I still cannot get a sine wave. I want to verify some thinking to see if I understand correctly.

  1. Can I get a sine wave without LVDT connected? Just like connecting P1A or P2A to a oscilloscope.
  2. Can I see the sine wave from the ADC on PGA970? Like connecting P1A to S1PA and P2A to S1NA.

Any suggestion is helpful.

Sean

  • Hi Sean,

Yes, you will be able to see the sine wave output without an LVDT connected. You can view the unamplified output at TP16 (PI) to make sure there is some output. If you do not see anything at P1A or P2A and you DO see something at P1, the jumpers at J2 and J7 might be missing.

I'm not sure what connecting the primary excitation directly to the secondary inputs would accomplish in this case. The best way to determine if there is an output from the waveform generator is simply to measure it with an oscilloscope.

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks for your reply. I will try it. The reason why I want to connect the primary excitation to the secondary inputs is to evaluate ADC at the same time. In that case, I may get the sine wave first then sample it with ADC.

    Best,
    Sean
