ADS1232REF: ADS1232REF software does not find port

ADS1232REF software does not find port. I can use a terminal to communicate and run the ADS1232REF, but the TI software just sits there "scanning" (in the display). Im running windows 10.

    Hi Gary,

    Welcome to the E2E forum! Unfortunately the ADS1232REF has not been tested on Win10. On a positive note, I have Win10 and was able to get the software to work.

    The software will only work if the ADS1232REF is in analysis mode (red switch on the right-hand lower corner in the down position.) Also, the ADS1232REF requires external power (it does not power from the USB) as the board was designed to be stand-alone. So you must make sure that an external supply from a wall-wart or 9V battery is used.

    You must also have the driver loaded. This can be checked using Control Panel and Device Manager. You should see a device listed under Ports (COM & LPT) that is a TUSB3410 device. This driver should have been installed when the software was installed, but may not have installed properly if the ADS1232REF was plugged into the USB port at the time of installation. The ADS1232REF should not be connected to the USB when installing the software.

    Thank you, glad it works on win10. but it does not work for me. What version of the software are you using?

    Oh, what position should the JTAG/USB switch be in. the docs says it should be off, but its not really an on/off switch.

    Hi Gary,

    The software was downloaded from the link provided on the ADS1232REF tools page from ti.com (actually tried this today before I responded the first time) and version 1.4.0. If the software is continually showing 'scanning' then the ADS1232REF is not communicating to the GUI. The possible issues with not communicating can be one of the following:
    1. Power is not supplied properly to the ADS1232REF
    2. Driver is not correctly installed and device is not recognized (this can be double checked using Device Manager)
    3. MODE switch not set to ANALYSIS
    4. SW9 not in the JTAG position ( I should have mentioned this earlier as this switch determines the method of programming the MSP430 and has nothing to do with USB communication other than to allow the MSP430 to be programmed through the USB) JTAG position allows for normal communication through the USB instead of programming mode.
    5. Firmware not properly installed on the ADS1232REF (this can be verified by powering up the board and observing the message on the LCD)

    After studying this a little more, I switched to an old PC (vs my top of the line laptop). This PC has a clean install of win10 on it, about the same as my laptop. Did a install of the ADS1232REF software. plugged in the board, ran to software and it ran in seconds, found the com3 port and can take data. So my problem solved. (laptop issue is still a mystery - maybe USB3 vs USB2)
