ADS124S06: Self calibration procedure

Part Number: ADS124S06

Hello,

I'm trying to perform a self offset calibration on ADS124S06 but it seems that nothing is happening. I was expecting see, for example, a rising and fallings edges on pin DOUT/~DRDY, but it didn't occurs. I have already tested the same functionality in a onrmal (single) convertion on channels AIN0 and AIN1 and it works.

I was also expecting a change on offset calibration registers, but I read them before and after the self calibration and they remain the same.

Does anyone have a clue on what I may be doing wrong?

Please see below the code snippet that I'm using:

To perform the tests, I'm using a osciloscope to watch ADS pins, and executing the code step by step on debug mode. During debug, I am taking care to stop the code before rising the CS signal from ADS.

on ADS124S06.c file ...

void ADS124S06_sendCommand(unsigned char op_code)
{
    ADS124S06_CS(LO);

    xferByte(op_code);    // this line simple send a byte on SPI (this is working!)

    ADS124S06_CS(HI);          ---> breakpoint here!!!

    return;
}

on main.c file ..

unsigned char vucData[14];

...
ADS124S06_readRegs(OFCAL0_ADDR_MASK, 6, vucData);

ADS124S06_sendCommand(SFOCAL_CMD);

ADS124S06_readRegs(OFCAL0_ADDR_MASK, 6, vucData);

..

  • Hi Leonardo,

    Welcome to the E2E forum! There is a sentence in each of the calibration sections of the ADS124S06 datasheet (9.5.3.9 for SFOCAL for example) that states "Calibration commands must be issued in conversion mode." If you are using single-shot mode, the command will be ignored if the ADC is in standby and not converting. In this case you should first issue the START command (or bring the START pin high) to start a conversion, and then before the conversion completes issue the calibration command. If you use the commands, then you would issue the START command immediately followed by the calibration command.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Bob,

    Thanks for your help. It worked!

    In fact there is a need to be conversion mode, not stand-by. I didn't realize that single-shot mode implies that it will goes to stand-by after a conversion. Figure 82 ilustrates it very well.

    Best Regards,
    Leonardo.
