ADS1220: ADC is damaging

Part Number: ADS1220

I  am using ads1220 with 5v supply for both analog and digital part. The reference is 4.096V. My inputs are damaging time to time. The input voltage is maximum 4.5V. How to protect the adc from damaging. I have used around 50 nos out of that 5 got damaged.

  • Hi A K,

Welcome to the E2E forum! To prevent damage you must make sure that the input voltage is referenced to the same ground as the ADS1220. You must also make sure that the absolute maximum ratings are not exceeded. No more than 10mA of continuous current is allowed through the analog inputs in an overvoltage condition. Most often a series resistor is used to limit possible input current (which is often already in circuit as a part of input filtering). Can you share your schematic? Can you tell me more about the source voltage and how you have it connected to the ADS1220?

    Thanks,
    Bob B
