AMC7836: DAC output current

Part Number: AMC7836

Hi team,

My customer has two questions about AMC7836 DAC output:

1. What' the Max current capability of DAC output ?  The typical current is 45mA?

2. If one DAC output is short to GND, if other DAC channels in the same bank will be impacted?

Thank you.

  • Lilian,

The datasheet only provides the typical number because this behavior is not trimmed or tested at final test, therefore no maximum value is guaranteed. It is possible we could ask the design or characterization teams for any data on this to come up with a ballpark for the maximum current capability, but since it would not go into the datasheet this would be more of a guideline than any specified guarantee.

Concerning impact to adjacent channels, if an individual DAC channel were shorted to GND and therefore drawing an abnormally high current, assuming the supply to that DAC bank can supply adequate current, the other channels would not also collapse. However due to the excessive current consumption of the DAC channel shorted to GND, most likely you would see increased offset error due to the current flow inside the internal GND and the PCB GND itself.
