TSW1400EVM: LED's will not come on

Part Number: TSW1400EVM

I'm currently using a TSW1400EVM to connect to TI ADC which has been successful over the last few days. When I came to test it today all of the LED's have not switched on and don't seem to with anything I do. I have checked the fuse which is not blown, all of the test points around the boards are giving out the expected voltage and turning it on and off again several times doesn't seem to have done anything. Any suggestions at what the reasoning behind this might be?

  • Hi Will,
We've received your question, and I have forwarded it to an engineer familiar with the TSW1400EVM.
    Best Regards,
    Clay
  • Will,

Is your power supply capable of providing at least 3A? After power up, the 5V input should draw around 0.37A. The only LED that should be on is labeled as C87. The other LED's turn on after the FPGA has been programmed. Can you connect to the board with the GUI? Is the fan running when power is supplied? If you can connect, try to download firmware, and after about 20 seconds, report what message the GUI displays?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • The power supply is providing 5 volts and slightly over 0.38A. LED C87 is on and the fan is also working as expected. The board itself is recognised by the software and appears in the window for selecting the serial number of your board. After clicking on 'OK' it runs for about 2 seconds before a message appears saying 'No Firmware. Please select a device to load firmware into the board'. If the desired ADC is then selected it tries to download the firmware and then repeats the previous message. The ADC specific GUI has also be downloaded.

Something I've spotted in the command log is that the last message before several repititions of 'Test Selection' and 'waiting for user input' is the command 'Load Device GUI?'. Does this mean that the TSW1400EVM and the ADC  are not interfacing correctly?

Having the same setup with a different ADC the results are exactly the same. Initially the firmware is not found, on selecting the ADC from the drop down menu it is then still unable to find it

I hope something in there is useful.

    Regards,

    Will

  • Can you tell me your solution about this problem, thanks. email : 879028045@qq.com
  • User,

Is your power supply capable of providing at least 3A?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi, Jim

Yes, My power supply can provide 3A.

I'm currently using a TSW1400EVM to connect to AFE5808AEVM. After power up, the 5V input draws around 0.37A. The only LED C87 is on. The power supply for AFE5808AEVM is providing +-5 volts and slightly over 0.7A.

I hope something in there is useful.

  • LVQIAN,

Can you try this with the AFE5808 powered down and disconnected from the TSW1400? Select a different ADC and or DAC. If you get to the same point again, what is the status of the LED's?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hello, Jim

When I disconnected the AFE5808AEVM from TSW1400EVM , After the AFE5808AEVM GUI has launched, LED41 and LED42 go off and the rest of the LEDS remain on. I wonder why we need the power supply of 3A. Is the current of the board working at least 3A? Can the board withstand such a large current?
  • LVqian,

Why are you launching the AFE5808 GUI? I just want you to run HSDC Pro GUI with no board connected to the TSW1400. The GUI should connect and you should be able to download firmware using any of the ADC options. Just do not select the AFE5808.

When the FPGA starts downloading firmware, there is a surge in current that you will not see on the power supply display. This is why you need at least 3A. After the firmware has loaded properly, the GUI will display an Interface Type as shown below in the bottom right of the GUI. If this occurs, I believe your TSW1400EVM is working properly and the issue is with the interface to the AFE board. What is the status of TSW1400 LED's D2-D9? What is LED41 and LED 42 that you mention above?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi, Jim
I only run HSDC Pro GUI with TSW1400EVM. Only LED C87 is on, and the status of TSW1400 LED's D2-D9 is still off.
    My Procedure :
    0. AFE5808A GUI and HSDC Pro V4.9 run.
    1. Select the serial nubmber of device ...> K1227029-TSW1400...>OK
    2. "No firmware. Pease select a device to load firmware into the board." --> OK
    3. Select"AFE5808_09_14b.rbf" in HSDC Pro GUI. waiting.....
    4. "Initialize ADC ADC _PINMAPPING_INDEXES_INVALID ADC channel ordering indexes are not valid?" --> Yes
    5. "No firmware. Pease select a device to load firmware into the board" is shown again.
  • LVqian,

Ii appears you may have a bad TSW1400.

The following link has the details and a link to the form to start the return process.   Once you are on the returns and refunds page of the TI Store look for the hyperlink which says: TI store customer support form.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • LVqian,

You may have a faulty board. Go the following link to learn more about our EVM return policy.
