DAC3484: Max output Alias frequency

Part Number: DAC3484
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC38RF82

the DAC3484 part was recommended to me by a colleague as a potential 1500 MHz modulated source.  I cannot find anything in the spec that discusses maximum output frequency in higher order alias bands.   The data sheet seems to only support 1st Nyquist zone output.  Given the 1.25 GSPS clock my application would fall in the 3rd nyquist zone.  Also the output has 5pF capacitance which also would not seem to support 1.5 GHz output.  Without a spec on its maximum output frequency how is one supposed to determine application.

  • Hi,

you can use the DAC3484 in third Nyquist zone in a functional manner but TI has not yet made plans to characterize the device in the third Nyquist to recommend the operation.

  • Hi Doug,

If you have the flexibility to work with a dual or single channel DAC and a JESD204B Interface you may also consider DAC38RF82 family.    There are 12 products in the family and you can leverage the on-board PLL to generate a higher DAC sample rate than what your system clock offers.  The family offers single and dual DACs with different outputs (differential or single ended) and a few different choices for PLL frequency.  The details can be found in the summary table of the product folder for the DAC38RF82.

  • Thanks Kang
Do you know off hand the difference between the H and Non H version and if either has better performance in the 3rd Nyq zone?
  • Hi Doug,

the H version is the wide bus version to allow more LVDS input ports so the serialization rate is less.
