ADS1675REF Labview library and Power Supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO, ADS1675

Hi, I'm a student of Rome Tor Vergata University, our research group bought  the ADS1675REF to maximize the performance of a Labview virtual lock-in. I have two question about the use of this board:

1)I install the most recent ADCpro software and Labview library  but lot of VIs require  "FG_Init Shifter.vi" and other that are missing. The final application isn't a real-time one so the simplest way is to read the file generated by ADCpro or is there some most elegant solutions?

2)For the final application, to minimize THD, we want to supply all the input required;is there some dedicated board to supply the ADS1675REF or we have to buid it?

Thanks a lot...

Lucio

  • Hi Lucio,

Just to be clear that I understand the issue, are you trying to run the ADS1675REF plugin with ADCpro and it does not work for you?  I've not seen this myself, so I can look into that for you it the code does not run withing the ADCPro evironment.

For the analog input, you would need to supply your own analog source capable of providing a clean input signal - everything is there from a signal conditioning standpoint on the EVM.

  • Hi Tom,

I tested the board with +9/-4Vcc and +5Va analog supply (connectors J5 & J4) with ADCpro and the board work perfectly, but I'd like to use  labview ads1675ref library instead of ADCpro because we want to integrate it in a Labview virtual lock in amplifier. Is it possible or the only possibility is to import the .txt files generated by ADCpro in my labview program?

The second question is about the power supplies:  +/-Vcc, +5VA , +5VD , +3.3VD and +5V, some are optional (only used for best THD performance) and some are required (+/-Vcc and +5VA ). I made test with only the two required but if I want to source all supply is there some dedicated board or some linear regulators that TI suggests?

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi Lucio,

OK - now I understand.  The ADCpro software is setup to capture blocks of data.  The buffer in the FPGA associated with the software is not designed like a ping-pong buffer so the text files you would get wont provide you with contiguous samples block to block - there would be data missing in between.  Using the ads1675ref library alone won't be enough, you'd have to modifiy the VHDL for the FPGA as well.

What voltage input do you have redily available?  We have a number of regulators that could create the +/-Vcc and the other analog/digital rails for you.

  • Ok Tom, for me it's not a problem to work with only one block, in this case can I use ads1675ref labview library? Why are there some .vi missing (people with similar problem http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/precision_data_converters/f/73/t/36331.aspx?For example in ADS1675EVMPanel.vi the FG_Init shifter.vi is missing...

We have an agilent DC dual channel power supply but we want to have an integrate board with all +/-Vcc, +5VA , +5VD , +3.3VD and +5V supplies required...the problem is the package of the components, the board will be homemade so the best package will be TO220,PDIP,.. and not TSOP,SOIC,...

I try other tests with labview programs...

    Thanks!

  • Mr Cina -

The FG_Init shifter.vi is compiled into the ADCPro executable and therefore does not need to be included with the plug-in installer.

Although the plug-in source is available (can be seen in the installed directory), they weren't written to be stand-alone or part of another LabView program.  Thus, there is going to be several things that you will need to modify in order to get the plug-in to operate stand-alone or as a part of another LabView application.

    Regarding the FG_Init shifter.vi usage:

This VI, although part of the library/class, is only required by the plug-in loading functions, so you would not need to include/use it for your application since it doesn't use ADCPro.  There are others that may fit into this category as well, as well as the class/object reference the plug-in uses, and other libraries.

    Regards,

    Greg

  • Thanks Greg for the information, at this moment I use the board running ADCpro and, then, reading the txt data  with my labview program also because is the simpler solution. I get used with national instruments compaq DAQ which are simple to integrate in labview programs, I haven't experience with this type of ADC evaluation board.

    Thanks for all

    Lucio

  • Step 7. Apply +9V and –4V to the screw terminals marked J4. +VCC, GND, and –VCC are labeled below the entry point to the screw terminal.
Step 8. Apply +5 VDC to the screw terminal marked J5. +5VA and GND are marked at the terminal entry points. R39 is a short circuit that supplies both the digital 5V to the ADS1675 and 5V to the XEM3010 board. The XEM3010 generates a 3.3V supply that is fed back to the ADS1675.
The above content from the manual,Power supply need to prepare yourself? Is there a dedicated power supply module?
  • about the power supplies, which is required
  • Hi User4851500,

All the power supplies mentioned in the ADS1675REF users guide are required, and the expectation is that you supply them from you own bench supplies. There is no 'off the shelf' or dedicated power supply offered with the evaluation module.
  • ok !,Thanks for all
  • About XEM3010, I can not find schematics, I would like to ask where can be found it
  • Hi Feng,

The XEM3010 is a product developed and supported by Opal Kelly, you can talk with them about getting more detail on the FPGA card. Here is their website detail: https://www.opalkelly.com/
