ADS1292R: ADS1292R Algorithm and Accuracy

Part Number: ADS1292R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1294R

Hello All,

We are in Research phase of our one of the project .

Requirement : To get Heart rate , Respiration rate and Respiration volume of Patient with very high Accuracy. (99% while steady state & 97% while in motion  : Ref : Medical Devices)

In our research, We found about "ADS1292R from TI". So We are having some very important questions regarding this chip. Please Guide us.

Questions :

1. How much Accuracy ADS1292R provides in both the case , Heart rate and Respiration rate.

our goal is to achieve  99% while steady state & 97% while in motion.

2. We will use 3 Electrodes instead of 4. Does it affects accuracy?

3. We are planning to use only 3 electrodes for both, Heart Rate and Respiration.

Input from these 3 electrodes will be provided to both channels(Heart rate & Respiration) simultaneously. Does it affect accuracy?

4. Does TI Provides any Algorithm for ADS1292R in Software Development? Algorithm with best Accuracy?

or any other Reference for Algorithm which can help us in terms of Accuracy because it is our main concern.

5. Does it need any type of protection while in use?Guide us for the same.

Please provide solution to this.

Thanks.

  • Hello Palak,

    Thanks for your post!

    1) This requirement is at a system level, therefor it is difficult to quantify exactly what is required from the ADC. The rest of the system and code must be accounted for as well.

    2) Accuracy will not be affected.

    3) Accuracy will not be affected.

    4) All of the available software can be found here: ftp.ti.com/.../

    5) Implementing patient protection circuitry is standard. The device does not require additional protection outside of typical circuit considerations.

Several customers use the ADS1292R for this exact purpose and have not reported having trouble meeting their accuracy specifications. However I would also recommend taking a look at the ADS1294R as it is a newer device with several improvements such as increased sampling speed and lower input referred noise.

  • Hello Smith,

    Thank you for detailed reply.

  • Hello Smith,

I am having one another important concern. Please help here.

The person having device which contains ADS1292R will be in motion continuously.(Electrodes will be on chest)

Does this affect correctness of Sensor data? Will it generate false detection of Breathing rate/heart rate?
  • Hello Palak,

Movement will add additional muscle and skeletal signals to the ECG reading.

The sensor data will still be correct, however it will add an additional challenge to the code.
