TSW30SH84EVM: Synchronizing TSW30SH84EVM

Part Number: TSW30SH84EVM

Hello,

I have two TSW1400 boards with TSW30SH84EVMs connected to them. I am currently trying to synchronize the outputs so they are in phase. After reading the documentation provided here I was wondering it is feasible on the EVM boards.

From my understanding of the documentation, I would need to send an ISTR signal from the TSW1400 to the DAC, which is already being done as described in Figure 8 here (unless the TSW30SH84EVM has a different connection to the TSW1400 then the DAC34SH84EVM). I would need to connect the two TSW1400 boards in a way so that they both send these signals at the same time.

On the OSTR side, this is being provided by the onboard LMK04808B as described in Figure 1 here. So the two clocks would need to be provided the same ref clock on J11 (same figure).

Since the LMK04808B is also sending a clock signal to the TSW1400 (figure 1 image again) would having the LMKs synchronized solve both the OSTR and ISTR sync issues?

 Thank you,

Vinay Vazir

  • Vinay,

this will be a feasible but difficult setup with lots of wirings, and the reason is that this solution board was not done with synchronization in mind. The easiest way would be to have one single PCB design with a single LMK and two DAC34h84s. The synchronization of the two LMKs will definitely help achieve the alignment of OSTR, which is the major requirement for synchronization.

The alignment of the ISTR is not a necessary condition since the FIFO is designed to absorb the latency difference.

If you want to exactly line up ISTR, you will need to have a 'master" and "slave" DAC trigger setup for the TSW1400. Refer to the TSW1400 manual for detail on the DAC master slave trigger setup.
