ADS54J60EVM: TSW14J56EVM Data Capture problem

Part Number: ADS54J60EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS54J60,

Hello,

I recently purchased boards ADS54J60EVM and TSW14J56EVM. I am following the SLAU629A user guide to configure my capture. I have installed all the software without problems. I have two separate 5V ,3A power supplies supplying the board. I encounter two errors on steps 2.3.2 HSDC PRO GUI Configuration. In this step, i choose the ADC from the drop down menu. I choose the ADS54J60_LMF_8224. When the firmware is updated, it takes 30 seconds and i see a increase in current. When i enter 983.04M in the ADC Output Data Rate, i encounter my first error.

then reset the board and try to capture. It returns this error.

when i checked the TSW Board. D3 is on and D8 is on. All other Lights are off. On the ASD board, the D2 PLL lock is on. All jumpers are on default settings. I disconnected all my connections and tried to repeat the procedures. I still get the same error messages.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  • Migual,

On the ADS54J60EVM, did you load the LMK config file first, press the board reset, then load the ADC config file using the ADC EVM GUI? If so, which two files did you load?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hello Jim,

I opened ADS54Jxx EVM GUI. The first file i selected was the LMK_Config_Onboard_983p04_MSPS.cfg. After it loads, the pll2 locked led(D2) is lit. I then pressed the SW1(ADC Reset). The next config i loaded is the ADS54J60_LMF_8224.cgf. After i load this, i open the HSDC Pro Gui Configuration. I then follow those steps. In the ADC tab, i load the ADS54J60_LMF_8224. It takes ten seconds for the firmware to load. When i entere 983.04M in the ADC output Data rate field, it gives me an error

  • Hello Jim,
I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it. It worked the first time i captured. When i ran it the second time, I get the second the time out error. When this happens, the pll2 led turns off on the ADS. The current on the ADS goes from 1.35A to 0.5A. If i load the two files on the ads again, i can run the capture again a few more times before it crashes. Any ideas is to what is happening? I am going to swap out the power supply for the ads just to be sure.Thank for you time.
  • Miguel,

Which software did you uninstall? You should be running version 1.8 for the ADC EVM and version 4.9 of HSDC Pro. If PLL2 turns off, the LMK register settings got corrupted on the ADC EVM. What revision are both of these boards? Please send a screen shot showing the entire GUI of HSDC Pro when this crashes again. Are you using two separate supplies?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hello Jim,

Sorry about the very late response. There were three programs that i uninstalled. The first one was slac594i, this is ads. The second one was slwc107t , this is the tsw. The last one was slwc113, im not to sure what this is, but it was under the download section of the board. I reinstalled only the slac594i(ads54jxx gui v1.8) and slwc107t(hsdc pro 4.9). I am using two separate supplies for my boards. As for the revisions of the board, i just purchased them three weeks ago. I am looking at the boxes and i don't see a number or letter under Revision. As for the crashing, i get the time out error. At this point i have to reload the first to files on the ads to get it to run again.

  • Miguel,
Do you still need assistance with this issue? If not, I would like to close out this post.

  • Hello Jim,

I still need help with this issue, but i won't be able to work in this until next week. Can we keep it open or should i just submit another post next week?

  • Miguel,

You can keep this post open. It appears you are doing everything properly. If you do not see D4 blinking on the TSW14J56 after pressing "Capture", in most cases this means the ADC is not sending the reference clock to the TSW board. Do you have anyway to probe C80 and C79 near U4 on the ADS54J60EVM to verify a clock is present on both pins? This should be at 245.76MHz.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hello Jim,

I see the D4 blinking after pressing capture. I've been capturing without problems right now. The problem has fixed itself, but i don't know why. I will integrate this into my system and will post again if i have troubles.Thank you for all your help Jim.

    Regards,

    Miguel
