ADS1278-EP: Power Consumption per channel in High speed mode

I am performing some stress analysis and would like to know how much would be the power consumed typically per channel in High speed mode and High resolution mode.

There is information about the other modes power consumption per channel in the datasheet but not what I am looking for.

Also, all the electrical specification are assuming all the channels are active, what would be the case when only 6 channels are active and 2 unused.

also should the unused channels tied to ground?? I am think they should not contribute any power consumption.

Any help would be appreciated..

Hi,

The datasheet provides power consumption values for all modes of operation:

The power consumption with only 6 of 8 channels active can be estimated by taking 3/4 of the power when all channels are active.

Unused inputs can be tied to ground.

Hi Christian, thanks for a fast reply.

Can I conform, if I have my working voltage as 5.6 then power consumption for AVDD high speed mode would be 5V *97mA = 0.485 W for all 8 channels active.
now, for 6 channels active the power consumption would be reduced to 0.364 W( 3/4 *0.485), is that right??

what happens if we do not tie the unused inputs to ground and leave them floating inputs

Yes, that is the correct power consumption for AVDD, however, there are two other power rails that consume power, DVDD and IOVDD. You can assume these rails also save power when powering down 2 channels as an approximation.
