TLA2024: Safe input levels in Vin comes up before Vdd

Part Number: TLA2024

My customer is using the TLA2024 to monitor several supply rails.  All the rails except one are coming up with VDD or after.  VDD is 3.3V.  Their highest voltage rail (32V max) is coming up first - and currently has a resistor divider (3.2k/550 ohm) to divide the 32V max down to sub 3.3V levels.  I notice abs max on Vin is VDD+0.3V.  Is there a safe input current that they can monitor the 32V rail even if it comes up before VDD?  Or do we not recommend having any Vin come up before VDD at any level higher than 0.3V?

Thanks,

Dan

  • Dan,

The absolute maximum ratings also includes a ±10mA input current to any pin (other than power-supply pins). That would define the maximum safe input. However, even if the current input current is limited, the absolute max of the input of VDD+0.3V is still required. There might be some over-voltage or latch-up condition to a sensitive node that might be an unknown destructive problem.

I would just recommend that VDD comes up first, and that no VIN goes above VDD+0.3V.
