ADC128S022: replacing ADC12138 with ADC128S022

I compared the two data sheets and there are many different modes of operation. Nevertheless, I noticed that the MUX control on ADS128S022 (figure 1) has two don’t care bits to the left (also see table 1). The ADS12130, on the other hand, is left justified (no don’t care bits) (see Figure 60 and Table 2). Also, the ADS128S022 has a 12 bit unsigned transfer function and the ADS12130 has a 12 bit + sign (13 bit) transfer function. I do not believe that these two converters have a mode where they will be software compatible.

The figures mentioned are in the data sheets of the two different devices. I cannot find a compatible device. This is an old device with an unusual data format (12 bit + sign). I spent some time this morning but cannot find a directly compatible device.
