ADS1299: AGND & DGND CONNECTIONS IN ADS1299 Schematic

Part Number: ADS1299
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

Hello All,

I'am designing  PCB schematic for ADS1299 for my EEG Application Board. I'am confused with the AGND & DGND in the pins.

The Board will be USB Powered so Shouldn't the GND of USB & AGND ,DGND should be commonly connected with each other?

Is There some Difference in AGND & DGND?

kindly help me in understanding this issue.

  • Hi Sumit,

    Thanks for your post!
The purpose for AGND and DGND is to protect the analog signal chain (EEG/ECG etc) from digital noise (clocks, thermal, etc.) that could couple into the measurement and increase the amount of noise. Your grounds should be commonly connected away from the device near the USB using a 0Ohm resistor. I recommend looking at the ADS1299 and ADS1298 EVM User's Guides for layout examples.
