DAC8771: Current Output setting

Part Number: DAC8771

Dear Sir,

We are considering using the DAC8771 as a current output DAC.
The relationship between register setting code and output current is indicated in the data sheet.
However, I do not think there is a description of the relation of the output current to the REFIN voltage.
By externally applying and adjusting voltage to REFIN, can I change the current output range?
Thank you
  • Hello,

The DAC8771 is designed for the specified current output ranges listed in the datasheet. It is not recommended change the input reference voltage. What current output range do you require?

For higher output currents you can look into a discrete solution with a voltage output DAC and a V-I converter. I have linked a reference design below that provides details on a discrete high-side V-I converter.

    Thanks,
