ADS1299: Safety mechanisms built-in?

Part Number: ADS1299

Hello E2E Forum,

I am aware that this IC should not be used for medical applications. However, I was wondering if there were any protective measures built-in to the device other than for ESD.

Thank you,

Danny

  • Hi Danny,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum!

The ADS1299 ABSOLUTELY can be used in medical applications. The catch is that medical device standards apply to the whole system, not just one component. The ADS1299 is a great fit for low-noise biopotential applications, such as EEG or even fetal ECG, but additional circuitry is required to satisfy any and all regulatory standards for safety and performance. Other than ESD, the ADS1299 does not include any other protective measures.

    Best Regards,
