ADS8588S: ADS8588S : The number of Isolator-channels for SPI interface

Part Number: ADS8588S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7762

Hello Team,
Our customer would like to use the ADS 8588S with the SPI interface.
Please let me know the number of channels of the required digital isolator.
And if you have a recommended isolator, please share parts number for me.

Best Regards,
Shunsuke Goya

  • Hello Goya-san,

An example of how to isolate a similar device can be seen in the circuit document linked below.  A 4-channel isolator will work if only DOUTA is being used to output the data.  If both DOUTA and DOUTB are utilized as shown in Figure 69 of the datasheet then you'll need at least 5 isolated channels with two inputs (SCLK, /CS) and three outputs (DOUTA, DOUTB, FRSTDATA).  The ISO7762 would work well for this application and the 6th channel could be used for the BUSY line if desired.  Pull-up/down resistors can be used to set the outputs to known levels when the ADS8588 outputs enter tri-state.
