AFE4400: AFE4400 diagnostic

Part Number: AFE4400

How to perform auto-diagnostic of afe4400?

  • Hi Anish,

Diagnostic mode is enabled by setting "DIAG_EN" bit. Diagnostics sequence starts when this bit is set.
At the end of the sequence, all fault status are stored in the DIAG: Diagnostics Flag
Register. Afterwards, the DIAG_EN register bit self-clears to 0.
Note that the diagnostics enable bit is automatically reset after the diagnostics completes
(16 ms). During the diagnostics mode, ADC data are invalid because of the toggling
    diagnostics switches.

So basically set DIA_EN bit and read the output flags after 16mS. For further details please refer to section 8.4.2 of the datasheet.

  • Hi Prabin,

I have already gone through the datasheet and understood the diagnostics sequence.

From customer point of view, the device must detect probe faults on its own.

What i want is that on what condition one should start/enable diagnostic sequence.

For time being i have implemented below sequence,

1.) if finger is not present for 10sec, start diagnostic sequence

2.) if finger is present , reset diagnostic counter

  • Hi Anish,

Typically users look at the data and if they do not get the PPD signal for certain time they enable the diagnostics as to find the fault.
Your implementations looks fine to me.
