ADS1291: the purpose of the negative supply rail

Part Number: ADS1291
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM27762

customer currently evaluating the ADS1291

trying to use LM27762 for the supply voltage, but seems to have too much consumption for the wearable device.

is there other voltage supply reference with lower operating consumption?

also, can we check that what is the purpose of the negative supply rail for the ADS1291?

is it for negative input signals?

Thanks

  • Hello John,

    Thanks for your post!

For a low power LDO recommendation, I recommend posting to the LDO forum as opposed to the data converter forum. They will have knowledge on the latest and greatest LDOs.

You are correct that the purpose of the negative supply rail is so that negative input signals can be read. The ADS1291 can also be run in a unipolar configuration. Keep the input common-mode range restrictions and PGA gain settings in mind, these can be found in the datasheet.
