ADS1282EVM-PDK: U14 EEPROM functionality and I2C addressing

On the ADS1282EVM-PDK Printed Circuit Assembly looking to understand what U14 EEPROM function is? The schematic states that the address pins are all shorted to ground. If that is the case and U7 has it's address also at zero would that be a bus contention for SDA between U7 and U14?

Hi Dean,

The EEPROM on the ADS1282EVM is for board identification within our software interface. You need to review the datasheet for both the PCA9535 and the MCP-24AA256 to see that the control codes are different, so even with the A0/1/2 lines being shorted on both devices, they actually reside at two different I2C addresses.

Hi Dean,

I did a quick check and here are the addresses that I see for each of these devices...

IO Expander 0100 | A2 | A1 | A0 (A[2:0] are tied to ground)
EEPROM 1010 | A2 | A1 | A0 (A[2:0] are pulled-up through RA3)

Thank you for the information. Our problem now surrounds the data that is in the EEPROM. We are designing a compatible board to the ADS1282EVM that has some additional features that we wish to explore. So in order for us to get this project off the ground we need to use the MMB0 board and the ADCPro software.

So we need to explore deeper into the data that is contained in the EEPROM and program our own or possibly get programmed PROMs from TI.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dean,

We generally don't condone using our evaluation software for production purposes. The detail in the ADS1282 EEPROM is what allows the earth to continue to spin in a 24 hour cycle and maintain a steady orbit around the sun...

...just kidding!

To test your resolution we changed the address setting for the EEPROM so to simulate not being able to read the EEPROM data. Setting the variable to verify EEPROM to False the ADC Pro software was not able to fully load therefore we were unable to continue. Any additional advice would be appreciated.

Hi Dean,

Sorry for the delayed response.

You can try going into the INI file located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADCPro\plugins\evm\ADS1282\adcpro_evm.ini, and making sure that this configuration file has the text "EEPROMVerify=FALSE".

If set to "TRUE", I believe ADCPro won't allow you to connect to the EVM without the EEPROM programmed, but if this is set to "FALSE" I think you can leave the EEPROM blank and still use the EVM.
