ADS124S08: Part selection help: Difference between ADS124S0x and ADS1248?

Part Number: ADS124S08
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1248,

Hi,

Trying to understand - other than sample rate, number of channels and package options. What are the primary differences between - ADS124S0x and ADS1248.

Especially in terms of - ADC performance, sensor signal conditioning and self-/calibration features.

The online comparison tool (part of parametric search) doesn't seem reveal much. Can someone please help.

  • Hi SmartEngr,

The ADS124S08 is an updated version of the ADS1248 with additional features. The ADS124S08 is capable of doing everything the ADS1248. In addition the reference voltage is changed to 2.5V. The PGA can be bypassed which will allow single-ended measurements using unipolar analog supply. An external reference can be applied up to the voltage of the analog supply voltage.

There is a global chop feature, and the ability to choose either a SINC filter or a low-latency digital filter. The result is lower noise in the measurement. There is also a low-side switch to conserve power in bridge measurements. There is also an improved temperature sensor.

I would suggest looking at the main features of each of the devices by comparing the datasheets. In particular review the noise tables.

    Best regards,
    Bob B
