ADS1261: internal temperature sensor

Guru 11170 points
Part Number: ADS1261

Hello E2E,

Our customer will be start an new design for next product using the ADS1261 in a few days.
Application is analog front end circuit for multiple channel thermocouples for medical.

Question;
  -  Does internal temperature sensor able to use for cold junction compensation?
  -  In that case, are there any caveats? Do the recommended PWB patterns exist in documents?

Best regards,
ACGUY

  • Hi AC Guy!

    We don’t specify the internal sensor accuracy, but it is on the order of ~5 deg. C accuracy based on characterization review (not guaranteed though).

    Therefore, without your application running over temp testing and calibrating the internal temp sensor voltage, I wouldn’t recommend it using it for measuring the cold-junction temperature, as the error here will translate directly into an RTD error.

    For PCB, we have a CAD symbol (www.ti.com/.../pinout-quality) but not a recommended layout for this specific application. We also have the ADS1261EVM that you can review as well.
