ADS8168: Drive capability of REFP? Or use REFIO?

Part Number: ADS8168

Hello, I'd like to use the internal reference voltage internal to the AD8168 device.  I read REFIO can supply up to 2mA but there are no specs I can find in using the REFP output, which appears to be buffered.  I was thinking this was the preferable output to use for the internal reference.  But maybe I am incorrect.

  • Hello Phil,

Welcome to the TI E2E Community. The correct place to connect to the internal reference is the REFIO pin. The internal reference has a 1kohm resistor in series with its output and the REFIO pin, so you will need to use an external buffer if you connect to this pin. If you use the REFby2 output (2.048V when using the internal reference), then you can source up to 2mA.

The internal buffer is only intended to drive the ADC inputs, and is not specified for external loads.

    Regards,
    Keith N.

  • Great! Buffer added... Thanks!
