ADS1118: part suggestion

Part Number: ADS1118

For a project at my top customer , we also have a requirement to measure LED junction temperature using K type thermocouple.

ADS1118 based reference design looks suitable for application however we would like to hear from TI which solution is best to go with.

Temperature Range: 0C to 150C

  • Shreenidhi,

The ADS1118 should work fine for a thermocouple measurement. There's a lot of information about using this device for a thermocouple measurement. The ADS1118EVM has a thermocouple connection to make temperature measurements. The customer could use this EVM to evaluate the device in their application. You can find a link here:

    www.ti.com/.../ads1118evm

Additionally, there's a TI design for using the ADS1118 for thermocouple measurements based on the EVM with a more detailed writeup:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/TIPD109

Note that for using the ADS1118 temperature sensor for cold-junction compensation, the device needs to be right at the cold-junction to get an accurate measurement.

However, I might consider other devices if there are other measurements that need to be made or if there are other features that the customer requires. For example, the ADS114S0x can be used for RTD and thermocouples and has many more channels. If you think this might be useful for the customer, post back with additional requirements and we can discuss it more.
