ADS1299: Difference between Daisy Chain & Cascade Mode?

Part Number: ADS1299

Hello All,

I'm Planning to use 3 ADS1299 IC's to capture 24 Channel EEG Data . I was reading in the datasheet about using multiple ADS1299 Devices in Cascade mode and daisy chain mode.

My understanding after reading the data sheet is that Cascaded Mode is like a parallel connection and daisy chain is like Series.

I want to capture 24 Channel data from all the inputs at once. Which configuration will be better for my application & Why? I want to be sure before I start my PCB Design.

  • Hi Sumit,

    Thanks for your post!

Your understanding is correct and either way is fine, it mostly depends on how you would like to communicate with the devices.

If you are interested in using the multiple readback mode, then Daisy-chaining will not work. Cascade mode requires additional GPIO pins so that the MCU can communicate with the devices individually.
