DAC80508: With the same spec, 8 channel DAC will cost almost 8 times of 1 channel DAC?

Part Number: DAC80508
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC80501

Hi,

I ask this question because my customer need 8 references for 8 buck cicuit.

If they use one channel DAC, when we switch DAC output from 1st circuit to 2nd circuit, the reference will disappear for 1st circuit and then the circuit will stop working.

So it's impossible to use one channel DAC in such cases and I have to choose 8 channel DAC, right?

Since 8 channel DAC will only share reference, power, one socket will still have 8 x (DAC buffer+DAC register+DAC+BUF) shown below. So theoretically the price for 8 channel DAC is almost 8 times of one channel DAC, right?

  • Hi Howard,

Thank you for your query. The price of an 8-channel DAC is less than 8x that of a single-channel DAC. For example, the 1kU web price of DAC80508 is $9.99 while the same for DAC80501 is $3.44.

However, if your price target is still lower, you can go with another approch to implement a mutichannel output using Single-channel DAC + S/H. You can get details of that from this app note: www.ti.com/.../sbaa326.pdf

    Hope that answers your query.
