AFE4490SPO2EVM: Not getting expected PPG sensor reading in GUI

Part Number: AFE4490SPO2EVM

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting the expected waveforms that I have seen others get when using this product.

The waveforms shown in the GUI do not change, whether I have my finger in the sensor (DB9) or not.

A screenshot of my results are shown below:

I would very much appreciate any help on this, as it's part of a University project and time is of the essence.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but it gave me no option to change it.

Kind regards,
Brandon

  • Hello Brandon,

It seems like the GUI is in simulation mode.
I am assuming you are running the GUI in a Win 8 or higher OS.

The COM port description of the hardware in the Device Manager should be 'AFE44x0SPO2-FE EVM'.
Please refer to section 3.3 and Figure 12 of the user guide for details.
On Windows 10, the hardware is automatically assigned as USB Serial Device.

If this is the case, right click and select Update Driver Software and select "Let me pick from a list of devices..." option. Click on 'Have Disk' and then browse and select the driver.
The USB driver is located in the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\AFE44x0SPO2EVM GUI\USB Driver
After USB driver installation, you should see 'AFE44x0SPO2-FE EVM (COMxx)' under Ports(COM & LPT) in the Device Manager.
    This should resolve the issue.

Refer to the link: e2e.ti.com/.../2208366 in case you are running into driver signature enforcement issue. The instructions are applicable to the AFE4490EVM GUI as well.
  • Hello Praveen,

I've followed all of the above steps to install the drivers before, but I managed to get it working by changing the COM port number to 95.

I tried setting it to 50+ at first because I read somewhere in the forums that it should be >25, but 95 seemed to do the trick.

    Thank you for the help.

    Kind regards,
    Brandon
