DAC1282: Minimum load connection

Part Number: DAC1282

Hi,

When connecting the minimum output load of the DAC as recommended for THD improvement (figure 26 of the datasheet) how should the resistive load be connected?

a) By placing a resistor between the output pins (VOUTP and VOUTN)
b) By placing resistors from both output pins to the ground reference
c) By placing resistors from both output pins to a voltage equal to Vcom

The datasheet doesn't specify placement on this issue and I'm not sure (although i suspect it's either a or c).

Thanks in advance!
Willem

  • Hi Willem,

I checked with a characterization engineer and they said that the THD was tested with a differential resister between the DAC outputs (configuration A).

However, if you provided the same load to each input in configuration B or C you should probably get the same THD performance... Between configuration A and B, you have twice the voltage across the differential resistor than you would a resistor from either output to ground, so 1k differential resistor should be equivalent to two 500 Ohm resistors connected to ground (assuming GND is the common-mode voltage in both cases, so AVDD = 2.5V; AVSS = -2.5V)
