DAC34SH84EVM: FTDI pattern generator setting

I am trying to use LabVIEW to control the DAC34SH84EVM using the FTDI DLL, but there is an error and I can not talk to the device. I am using LabVIEW 2017, hope that is not a issue.

Hi Fuquan,

I see that you are trying to connect TSW308x EVM, not DAC34SH84EVM. To do so, please follow the instructions in the forum post:

Hi, the post does not solve the problem, I keep receiving error code 12 and there is no way to correct it. It looks like the DLL file is not functional.

Hi,

Please clarify which EVM you are running. The DAC34Sh84EVM or TSW308x EVM?

Please also advise if you are using 64-bit system. If so, I suspect the error is due to 32-bit dll in 64-bit system. We will need to ask our software team to patch it up.

The board is TSW30SH84EVM (www.ti.com/.../TSW30SH84EVM), the associated GUI software is TSW308x EVM Software (Rev. B) . The FT Prog show the device description is ‘TSW308xEVM’. I am confused myself, but pretty sure the description on the board is 'TSW30SH84EVM'.

To make it more clear, I am generating a data stream using TSW1400 Rev D and TSW30SH84 EVM. Control the TSW 1400 using the LabVIEW code come with the High Speed Data Converter Pro is positive. However, Control the TSW30SH84 EVM using the FTDI pattern generator example code is negative. Error code 12 is shown whenever running the program. I am using LabVIEW 2018, could that be the issue?

Brief search on NI labview about error code 12 shows 32-bit DLL vs. 64-bit OS environment. I will ask our software team to check if you can confirm if you are operating 64bit environment.

I installed a 32-bit LabVIEW on a 64bit Windows. The program can run without error pop up. Now I wonder if it is possible to load the registers from the TSW308x GUI directly? It is not easy to make my own FTDI txt file.

Fuquan,

I have answered your question in a separate forum post:

This program that you have used is really meant to serve as an DLL to bridge the gap of the final software that you want to run and the EVM SPI register write/read. If your final programming choice is Labview, then you can create a wrapper program that strips out the configuration file and load them one by one through the DLL program.

We are still looking into the 64-bit compatibility.

Thank you for the answers. I am trying to load them one by one. For example, I want to change the clock 8&9 divider to 128, which is corresponding to LMK register x04 x0000080, should I configure like the picture shown below? I turned off the GUI and run the LabVIEW code, there is no error but I don't see any change in the output.

Hi,

The FTDI Pattern File Path will need to be changed to LMK04828.txt as well

I had posted the information on the 2nd response following your main thread. Please go back to earlier discussion.

There is a forum post that talks about exactly how to interface the TSW308x EVMs through this DLL. Please follow this thread accordingly.

Fuquan,
our software team recommends using 32-bit Labview at this point as it will take a few days of active software support to generate the 64-bit DLL. If this is necessary on your side then I can contact you offline to get some information to justify the software support.
