ADS8319: Vref greater than Va+0.1V

To understand potential failure modes of the device what happens to the ADC readings when the Vref signal exceeds the Va supply by more than 0.1V as defined in the recommended operating conditions of the part.

    We do not have specific data for REF voltages greater than Va+0.1. The REF pins are protected by ESD diodes to the Va supply, similar to the ADC inputs shown in Figure 57 of the datasheet. Limiting VREF to less than Va+0.1V ensures that the ESD diode is off. As you continue to increase the Reference voltage, you will start to see current flowing through the ESD diode, loading down the reference, and possibly causing gain errors. Any noise on Va could also couple through the forward diode decreasing SNR as well. Any voltage on the REF pin beyond Va+0.3V could result in permanent damage to the device.
