ADC3241: Difference between Hardware and Software Reset

Hi Team,

I'm trying to understand the difference of the hardware reset and software reset of the ADC3241. Reading through the datasheet, it sounds like these two types of resets do the same thing. But the datasheet also mentions the internal registers must be initialized through a hardware reset. 

Is it acceptable to perform a software reset during power-up instead of a hardware reset?
