ADS8588S: Issue for ADS8588

Part Number: ADS8588S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8588H, , ADS8568

Hi Team,

Customer used ADS8588. When doing multi-channel acquisition, the sampling rate is 200KSPS.

Because the ADS8588's internal integrated front-end has a delay of tens of microseconds in processing the input signal, it affects the response to the acquired signal and does not meet our design.

Is there any way to solve the front-end delays? There are ADS8588H and ADS8588S in TI products. Customer used ADS8588S. Does ADS8588H have any improvement on this issue, or just the sampling rate is increased to 500KSPS? Is there an improvement plan? Is there any alternative chips are recommended to solve the delay problem?

Thanks.

  • Annie,

The delay for the ADS8588 is 13us for a ±10V range. This delay is directly related to the bandwidth of the 24 kHz filter. This filter cannot be turned off, so the delay cannot be eliminated. The other similar devices that you mentioned also have this kind of delay from the built in internal filter. Some customers measure this delay during manufacture of their product and calibrate is out (i.e. compensate for the delay mathematically).
One alternative device to look at is the ADS8568. This device supports ranges up to ±12V at 510ksps and does not have an internal filter. However, this device does require high voltage input supply’s (HSVDD = 15V, HSVSS = -15V, AVDD = 5V, DVDD = 4.4V). I will contact you off line regarding other options.

    Best regards,

    Art
